처음 밤낚시를 시작할 때, 헤드랜턴 고르는 게 생각보다 어렵더군요. 인터넷을 보면 ‘루멘’ 수치만 보고 무조건 밝은 게 좋은 줄 아는데, 막상 써보면 꼭 그렇지만도 않다는 걸 알게 됩니다. 저도 루멘 수치만 보고 고광량 제품을 샀다가 후회한 적이 있습니다.
가장 먼저 생각할 건 ‘밝기’보단 배터리 지속 시간입니다. 아무리 밝아도 한두 시간 만에 꺼지면 의미가 없습니다. 특히 야영 낚시나 야간 출조가 긴 분들에겐 8시간 이상 지속되는 제품이 훨씬 유리하죠. 요즘은 충전식 제품이 보편화됐지만, 보조배터리 호환 여부도 꼭 확인해야 합니다.
그리고 조명 색상도 중요합니다. 흰색 조명은 넓게 퍼지지만 물고기를 놀라게 하기도 하고, 붉은색이나 노란색 계열은 상대적으로 눈부심이 적고, 물고기의 경계심을 줄인다고 알려져 있습니다. 실제로 벵에돔 낚시할 땐 주변 조사님들이 대부분 은은한 색의 랜턴을 쓰더라고요.
방수 성능은 기본입니다. 갑작스러운 비, 파도 튐에도 견뎌야 하니까요. 최소 IPX4 등급 이상은 되어야 실사용에 문제가 없습니다.
마지막으로 착용감. 이거 은근 무시 못합니다. 낚시하면서 머리에 뭔가 불편하게 눌리면 집중이 안 돼요. 고무 밴드 탄력, 무게, 조절각도까지 꼼꼼히 체크하고 고르는 게 좋습니다.
결론은 이렇습니다. 밤낚시는 밝기보단 '지속력', '색감', '착용감'이 더 중요합니다. 눈앞만 밝은 것보다, 편하게 오래 켜둘 수 있는 랜턴이 진짜 좋은 랜턴입니다.
